Jemicy endeavors to promote a sense of community, encourage respect and sensitivity for others, and provide tools that bolster self-esteem and foster peacefulness.
The social skills curriculum focuses on topics such as friendship, identifying emotions, listening skills, and social problem-solving. Social skills classes are taught by either the school counselor or the dean of students/director of student life.
Lower school students are given structured opportunities throughout the day to engage in Yoga activities. Seven of Jemicy’s teachers are trained in Radiant Child® Yoga (RCY). This yoga training is specifically designed for those interested in teaching yoga to children of all ages and is one of the first child yoga training programs in the world. Teachers are able to lead students through various activities designed to enrich their mental and physical health and provide them with effective and age-appropriate self-calming and self-regulation strategies/techniques. Along with scheduled yoga classes, yoga techniques are naturally and purposefully infused into all areas of the curricular program.
