  • DIRECTOR OF ADMISSION – UPPER SCHOOL AND UPPER SCHOOL PREP

    Jemicy School, which educates talented and bright college-bound students with dyslexia or other related language-based learning differences, is currently seeking applicants for the position of director of admission for the Upper School and Upper School Prep divisions for the 2024-2025 school year. 

    The individual assuming this role will assist the director of enrollment management in all aspects of recruitment, admission, enrollment, and retention initiatives to advance the mission, vision, and financial sustainability of the school. This includes managing the daily operations of the Admission Office and the admission process. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required as well as the ability to present information effectively to diverse audiences. Additionally, this individual must be highly organized, detail oriented, and proficient at managing competing priorities. Finally, the director of admission needs to be a team player with exceptional ability to develop and cultivate relationships and work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders in a variety of roles. 

    Job Duties and Responsibilities: 
    • Review psycho-educational evaluations and other supporting documents to determine a candidate’s fit. 
    • Meet with prospective families to discuss their student’s profile, provide an explanation of the child’s testing, and educate families regarding Jemicy’s program.
    • Develop and maintain relationships with educational evaluators and other educational professionals regarding the psychological and educational profiles of candidates.
    • Efficiently manage applications, required forms, and communications with candidates and their parents. 
    • Enlist the support of faculty, staff, students and the broader Jemicy community for admission events and activities.
    • Communicate final admission decisions to families. 
    • Maintain accurate admission databases and manage relevant statistical information for use in official reports and projections. 
    • Collaborate with other members of the admission and marketing teams to evaluate and design admission and marketing materials with the goal of attracting and maintaining a capacity enrollment of qualified students for school programs.
    • Represent the school at various school community gatherings, meetings, and conferences.
    A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years of administrative, teaching, and/or marketing experience with an educational institution (preferably an independent school), along with an understanding of educational evaluations and language-based learning differences is required.     Jemicy School, which educates talented and bright college-bound students with dyslexia or other related language-based learning differences, is currently seeking applicants for the position of financial aid associate for the 2024-2025 school year. The financial aid associate reports to the director of enrollment management and supports Jemicy’s enrollment and retention goals to advance the mission, vision, and financial sustainability of the school. 
     
    The ideal candidate should possess exceptional organizational skills and problem-solving abilities; be a skilled multitasker who can prioritize responsibilities under strict time constraints; and be able to attend to details in all aspects of financial aid administration. Strong analytical skills, with the capacity to interpret and analyze complex financial data is essential. Additionally, the financial aid associate must have excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds - students, parents, and staff. Finally, the financial aid associate needs to be a team player, able to develop and cultivate relationships and work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders in a variety of roles. 
     
    Job Duties and Responsibilities: 
    • Process financial aid applications expediently and accurately and serve as a liaison between the financial aid applicant and the enrollment management team.
    • Communicate effectively, frequently, and in a timely manner with applicant families, the Financial Aid Committee, the director of enrollment management, and Jemicy’s Business Office.
    • Manage data and accurately document factors used to determine student awards. 
    • Manage the financial aid budget and establish financial aid policy in collaboration with the CFO and director of enrollment management. 
    • Evaluate a family’s eligibility for financial aid by analyzing personal and business tax documents accurately and offer recommendations to the Financial Aid Committee regarding awards. 
    • Balance the financial needs of the individual applicant with the school’s policies, enrollment goals, and budget constraints.
    • Provide financial aid counseling to families regarding all aspects of the financial aid process.
    • Administer the financial aid software proficiently: annual system set-up; on-going updates of family records; yearly reporting requirements; and knowledge of all algorithms, methodologies, and best practices related to the system.
    • Provide fair and equitable allocation of need-based financial aid awards. 
    • Handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and discretion.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Manage student and relationship profiles in the school’s Tuition Management Systems.
    • Work closely with the Enrollment Management Department & prepare annual enrollment contracts
    • Monitor collections and report delinquencies to the CFO
    • Work closely with parents and handle any student billing inquiries
    • Prepare purchase orders for all school orders
    • Check in all deliveries, distribute to the requestor, and arrange for the return of incorrect items.
    • Work with Accounts Payable Department to match invoices to POs.
    • Prepare monthly PO report of outstanding purchases
    • Digitize & maintain all files for the above duties as noted in the school’s retention policy

    Status:  Full-Time (10-Month)

    Jemicy School, which educates talented and bright college-bound students (grades 1-12) with dyslexia or other related language-based learning differences, is currently seeking an experienced, full-time (10-month), middle school counselor for the 2024-2025 school year. This position reports directly to the director of counseling.  
     
    The primary responsibility of the school counselor is to help promote and maintain a healthy, vital student community and school climate. In addition, this individual will assist students in areas of social and emotional development through a myriad of possible interventions. This position will support middle school-aged students on Jemicy’s Lower & Middle School Campus as well as those in the USP Program on the Upper School Campus.
     
    Job Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Help maintain the social well-being of the students
    • Conduct structured, goal-oriented counseling sessions in response to identified needs of groups of children. Themes include social skill development, conflict resolution, family issues, making healthy choices, relational aggression, and bullying
    • Create and conduct age-appropriate social skills lessons where needed
    • Assist in developing programs and intervention strategies that promote positive student behavior 
    • Co-teach in-service initiatives to foster social interactions and community.
    • Periodically travel with students during off-site activities to provide support and counseling, as needed 
    • Create opportunities for and assist with the implementation of all student recreational programming: athletics, trips and special events, student government, and clubs
    • Facilitate communication between faculty and parents regarding social/emotional issues that may impact school performance
    • Refer students and their parents, as needed, to appropriate specialists, special programs, and outside agencies
    • Maintain documentation of contact with students, parents, and professionals in the community 
    • Coordinate parent education programs to assist students and parents with relevant issues (i.e., Internet safety, relational aggression, bullying)
    • Adhere to ethical standards and best practices of state and national school counselor associations
    • Demonstrate knowledge of local policies and state and federal laws pertaining to school counseling
    • Follow the Code of Ethics for the American Counseling Association as approved by the ACA Governing Council.
     Job Qualifications:
    Required:
    • A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in school counseling, counseling, or a closely related field.
    • LCPC or LCSW certification
    • 2 to 3 years of experience in counseling, preferably in a school setting
    • Experience, knowledge, and understanding of students with language-based learning differences.
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sufficiently

  • KIT AIRPLANE BUILD LEAD INSTRUCTOR

    Jemicy School, which educates talented and bright college-bound students (grades 1-12) with dyslexia or other related language-based learning differences is currently seeking a lead instructor for its Kit Airplane Build Program. The role of lead instructor offers a unique opportunity to work closely with a team of highly motivated, upper school students to construct an actual BushCat kit airplane.

    This part-time position, Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., involves directing hands-on, structured build sessions at Essex Skypark, in Essex, MD. These sessions focus on developing transferable skills, material science knowledge, aviation-specific fabrication techniques, and more. From safety wiring to soldering; assembling brake systems; and understanding the strength of materials, flammability, etc., students acquire experience and skills that translate to areas outside of aviation.

    The lead instructor’s responsibilities will include the following: 
    • Lead and supervise students in the construction of a kit airplane. 
    • Develop and execute lesson plans aligned with program objectives; follow up during the week.
    • Assist students comprehensively following the build manual and instructional videos provided with the airplane kit.
    • Work closely with a Jemicy teacher weekly for additional support and coordination.
    • Provide expert guidance and support to students in aviation mechanics and construction.
    • Maintain records/notes of session progress and didactic topics covered during the program.
    • Collaborate effectively with volunteers and mentors to ensure a smooth and enriching learning experience.
    • Access additional building support from the US importer of the airplane kit, as necessary. 
    • Utilize the dedicated hanger and instructional resources available for the kit airplane build.
    The ideal candidate should possess expertise in aviation, mechanics, and construction; demonstrate a willingness and enthusiasm for working with students; and exhibit strong organizational and communication skills. Previous teaching or instructional experience is advantageous. Familiarity with dyslexia and language-based learning differences is beneficial but not mandatory.
