Outreach & Professional Learning
MISSION
Jemicy’s Outreach and Professional Learning Department’s mission is to share our 50+ years of experience and expertise to ensure that all students with dyslexia or other related language-based learning differences are recognized, understood, supported, and celebrated. By educating not only the students but also the adults who are responsible for their growth (parents, teachers, employers) we will affect change beyond the confines of our campus until every student who learns differently can experience the joy of learning and reach their highest potential.

Rose Heggs
MEET OUR DIRECTOR
Rose Heggs brings a unique blend of professional experience and heartfelt passion to her role as Director of Community Outreach and Professional Learning at The Jemicy School. She earned both her B.S. and M.Ed. in Special Education and Secondary English from Towson University, laying the foundation for her dynamic career in education.

Before entering the field of education, Rose led a successful career in marketing and business development. Despite her professional accomplishments, her true calling as an English teacher and advocate for students with diverse learning needs ultimately led her to transition into education in the late 1990s. Since then, she has served as a dedicated literacy interventionist, passionately teaching, supporting, and empowering both students and educators across PK–12 settings.

Rose’s approach is grounded in science-based, evidence-backed literacy instruction. She prioritizes reliable, research-driven methods over ideology to ensure that every child receives effective and individualized support. Her extensive experience spans working with students aged 3 to 18 and includes deep expertise in learning differences such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD, ASD, and emotional disorders.

As a practitioner and leader, Rose is highly skilled in designing and implementing strategic learning supports and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to optimize student outcomes. Her commitment to ongoing professional growth has led her to explore the fields of neuroeducation and language development, enabling her to interpret data, refine instruction, and cultivate a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Rose’s educational philosophy centers on nurturing the whole child. She believes that social-emotional well-being is inseparable from academic success, and she integrates positive language, compassionate feedback, and thoughtful exploration to cultivate a lifelong love of learning.

In her new role at Jemicy, Rose is excited to expand the school’s reach through meaningful community engagement and high-impact professional learning. She looks forward to building strong connections, sharing best practices, and supporting educators and families in fostering a culture of thinking, growth, and possibility.
An internationally recognized leader in educating talented and bright students with dyslexia or other related language-based learning differences.
