Our approach is rooted in understanding the needs of every student, recognizing their strengths, and celebrating their gifts in ways that support growth, knowledge, skill, and creativity.
Athletics are a conduit through which students gain respect for self and others and come to understand the value of dedication and hard work within a team setting.
Five Jemicy Upper School students participated virtually in the NAIS Student Diversity Leadership Conference 2020, a multiracial, multicultural gathering of upper school student leaders from across the U.S. and abroad. The conference, held from December 1-4, 2020, celebrated its 25th year.
Officially announced on October 19, 2020, Jemicy’s Graduate Dyslexia Certificate Program (in partnership with NDMU) has earned comprehensive accreditation through the International Dyslexia Association. It is the 1st and only graduate dyslexia program in Maryland and provides participants with cutting-edge research and evidence-based skills/methods to be effective/competent teachers of students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and other related learning differences.
Rain, thunder, and lightning on June 19 delayed, but could not stop the Jemicy Graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020, held on the athletic field of the Upper School Campus. Adhering to social distancing guidelines, families watched and listened from their automobiles, as the event was projected on a 40-foot screen. Along with traditional speeches and granting of diplomas, a plaque was revealed recognizing the strength and fortitude demonstrated by the Class of 2020, whose senior year was impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Congratulations to all! We wish you the best of luck and success in the future.
This year’s men’s varsity basketball team had its most successful year in Jemicy basketball history, with a record of 13-8, and 6-6 in the MIAA conference. They came up just one game short of competing in the conference playoffs! GO, MOOSE!
The MOOSE has been selected as the mascot for all of Jemicy School. Prior to the 2019-2020 school year, the Lower/Middle and Upper Schools had separate mascots. The Viking, the mascot of Valley Academy, with whom Jemicy merged in 2003, was retired, and the transition was made to a single mascot to symbolize the unity between the two campuses – ONE SCHOOL, ONE MASCOT!
ParagraphologyTM the term use to define the variety of technological resources, color-coding systems, note-taking techniques, interactive methods, and strategies to teach the writing process, has been trademarked and registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office!
Jemicy’s Thespian chapter was chosen as the CHAPTER SELECT/STATE CHAMPIONS at the 2020 Maryland State Thespian Festival, held this January. The troupe earned another trip to the International Thespian Festival (this summer at the University of Indiana, Bloomington) and a place on the One-Act Stage at the festival, where they will perform their adjudicated performance of The Laramie Project. We are so proud of our Jemicy thespians; they shine brightly in the spotlight! BRAVO!
In the winter of 2018, a total of 307 solar panels were installed at Jemicy’s two campuses in Owings Mills; the system became operational in April 2019. The installation was made possible by a generous grant from the Lockhart Vaughan Foundation, which aims to promote sustainability and environmental responsibility and help schools reduce their carbon footprint.
