Flag Day Tradition Continues

On Friday, January 6, young alumni from the classes of 2019-2022 caught up over lunch about their college experiences and reminisced about good times like a fall retreat to Assateague, a basketball game win, highlights of Ring Week, and more. Visits to classrooms and offices brought smiles, hugs, and laughter. The program continued in the Tomlinson Theater where a panel of alumni answered questions from our current juniors and seniors. A special shout-out to our esteemed panelists:

The panelists impressed the audience as they did an excellent job fielding a wide variety of questions from “What time management tips work for you at college?” to “How do you ‘adult’?”  Jaylen shared his insight on taking responsibility for your own success, learning from your failures, and adjusting to the fact that no one is “babysitting” you anymore. The audience burst into applause following a particularly poignant story by Mollie in which she shared that a  professor made a point to tell the entire class that one student was getting an unfair advantage by getting extended time and refused to give her the mandated accommodations. Working with student services, Molly not only got her accommodations but the professor was fined. Jemicy is so proud of your self-advocacy skills! 

Next, it was off to the gym to unveil the Class of 2022’s flag hung proudly on the wall followed by the raising of the Class of 2023’s flag at the entrance to the school. 

 

It was truly a great afternoon. Flag Day beautifully illustrates the deep relationships that Jemicy fosters and the bright futures that are possible for all of our students. Thank you to the Director of Alumni Relations, Jared Bierer, and everyone who made this event a resounding success!
