Jemicy lower and middle school students possess average to superior cognitive abilities and have a healthy social and emotional well-being.  Our students are motivated to learn but struggle in a traditional classroom because their reading, writing, math and/or organizational skills do not match their cognitive potential.

WHO JEMICY SERVES
Jemicy School is tailored to meet the needs of students who have one or more of the following primary diagnoses: 
  • SLD (Specific Learning Disability or Specific Learning Disorder)
    • With impairment in reading (dyslexia); Difficulty with reading fluency, decoding, and spelling
    • With impairment in written expression (dysgraphia); Trouble with handwriting, organizing ideas in writing, and spelling
    • With impairment in mathematics (dyscalculia); Challenges with number-related concepts and mathematical reasoning
Lower and Middle School
JEMICY IS UNABLE TO SERVE
Students with the following diagnoses may be better served by schools that have the resources and expertise to meet their needs:
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Nonverbal Learning Disability
  • Intellectual Disabilities
  • Emotional and/or Behavioral Disorders
  • Significant communication disorders
Additionally, we cannot serve students who have a recent history of or are currently experiencing:
  • Verbal or physical aggression
  • Elopement/unsafe behaviors
  • Self-injurious behaviors
  • Acute severe emotional distress
