A Multisensory Structured Literacy course designed for adults
This program includes the first 30 hours of coursework toward Orton-Gillingham Level I certification.
This course is offered to those in the Jemicy community as well as the general public.
MD State certified teachers may apply for 2 MSDE CPD credits upon completion of this course.
Date: June 17 – 21, 2019
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Location: Jemicy Lower/Middle School Media Center
Cost: $900.00 includes all materials and books for the course.
Instructor: Cathy Rommel, M.Ed.

Participants Will:

  • Learn and understand the components of multisensory instruction
  • Learn about Samuel Orton and Anna Gillingham
  • Learn how to teach phonics using the Orton-Gillingham method of instruction
  • Learn strategies that promote mastery of phonological awareness, reading, and spelling skills
  • Make useful materials that will enhance a lesson
  • Observe lessons by Jemicy faculty
  • Prepare and teach your own lesson to other class members
  • Participate in a dyslexia simulation – Put Yourself in the Shoes of a Dyslexic
  • View and discuss the F.A.T. City video
