Camp Jemicy is a 5-week, co-ed day camp for students age 6 - 14 run by Jemicy School, a leader in the education of children with dyslexia or other related language-based learning differences.
Camp Jemicy’s separate Moose (for campers grades 1-5) and Viking (for campers grades 6-9) programs enable age-appropriate programming targeting the skill levels and interests of our campers. The Moose and Viking Camp programs operate individually from one location – Jemicy’s Upper School Campus.
Camp Jemicy GOALS
Provide structured, multisensory instruction focused on maintaining skills and minimizing summer learning loss
Build self-esteem and promote individual growth
Offer an exciting and enjoyable social and activity-based camp experience
Camp Jemicy offers daily skills instructionthat addresses each child’s learning style and specific academic needs through a structured, sequential program using creative, multisensory, research-based techniques.
Jemicy teachers – skilled and trained in various multisensory reading programs approved by The International Dyslexia Association – comprise the majority of the camp’s tutoring staff; they are experts in the field!
Camp Jemicy helps students reinforce and maintain the skills learned throughout the year, providing a remedy for the problem of “summer learning loss.” Your child will be able to hit the ground running in the fall.
Activities & RECREATION
The afternoon recreation program offers a wide variety of age-appropriate, innovative, stimulating, and exciting activities and adventures. Jemicy selects mature, imaginative individuals, many of whom are Jemicy alumni to work with the campers during recreational activities.
Moose Campers will delight in exploration, arts & crafts, games, swimming, woodshop, and field trips
Viking Campers can select afternoon programs, such as Digital Design, Adventure, Performing Arts, and Woodshop. Campers do not need to be enrolled in the morning academic program to participate in these activities (click Viking Activities in download section below).
Mix a bit of abracadabra and hocus-pocus with a lot of instruction, imagination and creativity and you get magic…the Camp Jemicy way. Again, this summer, Camp Jemicy Viking campers were challenged by the wizard of Upper School photography, teacher Leslie Furlong, to create a “MAGICAL” stop motion, animation movie (using the iPad app iMotion) during their arts class project.
