Camp Jemicy is a 5-week, co-ed day camp for students age 6 - 14 run by Jemicy School, a leader in the education of children with dyslexia or other related language-based learning differences.
Camp Jemicy’s separate programs for campers in grades 1-5 and those in grades 6-9 enable age-appropriate targeting of academic skill levels and recreational/creative interests
Camp Jemicy GOALS
Provide structured, multisensory instruction focused on maintaining skills and minimizing summer learning loss
Build self-esteem and promote individual growth
Offer an exciting and enjoyable social and activity-based camp experience
Camp Jemicy offers daily skills instruction that addresses each child’s learning style and specific academic needs through a structured, sequential program using creative, multisensory, research-based techniques.
Jemicy teachers – skilled and trained in various multisensory reading programs approved by The International Dyslexia Association – comprise the majority of the camp’s tutoring staff; they are experts in the field!
Camp Jemicy helps students reinforce and maintain the skills learned throughout the year, providing a remedy for the problem of “summer learning loss.” Your child will be able to hit the ground running in the fall.
Activities & RECREATION
The afternoon recreational program offers a wide variety of age-appropriate, innovative, stimulating, and exciting activities and adventures. Jemicy selects mature, imaginative camp counselors, many of whom are Jemicy alumni to work with the campers during recreational activities.
Younger campers (Grades 1-5) will delight in outdoor adventure, exploration, arts & crafts, games, water activities, woodshop, and field trips.
This year, older campers (Grades 6-9)can make selections from the following afternoon programs*:
Digital Design and Welding:Basic DSLT Camera Settings & Photoshop Skills, Basic MIG Welding and Tool Awareness
Mix a bit of abracadabra and hocus-pocus with a lot of instruction, imagination and creativity and you get magic…the Camp Jemicy way. Again, this summer, Camp Jemicy Viking campers were challenged by the wizard of Upper School photography, teacher Leslie Furlong, to create a “MAGICAL” stop motion, animation movie (using the iPad app iMotion) during their arts class project.
