    General Position Summary

    The Director of Institutional Advancement is responsible for all external operations that support the educational mission and vision of the school.  In addition, the Director of Institutional Advancement develops, manages, and executes the design and implementation of fundraising strategies, communications and publications, outreach programs, and all stakeholder relations. As a senior administrator, the Director of Institutional Advancement works closely with the Head of School and fully understands the importance and sensitivity of this relationship.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities
    • Establish and execute forward-thinking development/ advancement and strategic programs that optimally grow the annual, major, and capital campaigns; legacy gifts; and planned giving.
    • Oversee all aspects of the development program, including fundraising, leading the annual giving program, guiding the capital campaign, soliciting corporate and foundation proposals; creating a strong alumni association, and special development events.
    • Identify, research, and spearhead the implementation of a diverse and multifaceted fundraising program to support the school’s strategic vision, cultivating a culture of giving and gratitude across all constituencies and socio-economic strata.
    • Enhance existing relationships while building new relationships, systems, and programs that further tap into the generosity and resources of the community.
    • Collaborate with the admissions office on PR initiatives and the marketing and communications office to create/produce fund raising-related communication materials to expand and enhance the school’s visibility and reputation.
    • Maintain a database of all contributors and provide reports as required.
    • Supervise, set direction and support goals for each member of the advancement team. Ensure that the job descriptions for each member of the staff are clear and that annual reviews take place for the benefit of the staff member and the department.
    • Create and manage budgets for the department and for future Capital Campaigns.
    • Serve as a liaison with Parents’ Association and provide support for their many programs, events, and meetings.
    • Attend all Board meetings: provide details and updates as appropriate.
    • Serve on the Board of Trustee Committees as requested by Head of School.
    Qualifications
    • B.A. required, advanced degree preferred, with a minimum of 10 years experience in successful fundraising, volunteer management, and alumni relations, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.  Successful experience in an Institutional Advancement leadership position is preferred.
    • Established record as a dedicated leader/manager, collaborative and team oriented, who is self-motivated, can take charge to build consensus and affect change; must impart credibility, trust, enthusiasm, integrity and ethics. 
    • Experience in independent school administration and an understanding of language-based learning differences strongly preferred. 
    • Proficient in the skills to effectively use a variety of programs and software, including database programs; strong and progressive oral and written communication skills; strong social skills; able to juggle multiple priorities effectively; out of the box thinker; excellent attention to detail. Some evening and weekend hours required.
