The Case for Jemicy School
It takes expertise and vision to run a highly successful, comprehensive educational program for students who struggle with reading, written expression, organization and/or spelling; we are fortunate to find these qualities in Jemicy’s board members and administrators. Yet continued success and growth require increased financial investment. With careful planning, additional funds will enable the Jemicy faculty to stay abreast of teaching methods, technological advances and educational research that will serve our student population.

Today, we have achieved our goal of combining two schools – Jemicy School and the former Valley Academy – into one institution with a common mission and educational philosophy. Enrollment is up, educational programming is strong, and graduates are enjoying success in other independent schools and at college. Now it is time for us to improve our classrooms, upgrade and expand our technology, and enhance our athletic and performing arts facilities. We must increase our endowment to support faculty benefits and training, and to keep a Jemicy education within the reach of current and future Jemicy families.

In May, 2007, we launched the quiet phase of Begin Here: The Campaign for Jemicy School to fund these priorities for People, Places, and Programs. This ambitious campaign, and the goals it supports, reflects the vision of our founding educators and parents. It puts into action the board’s commitment to serving future generations, and to maintaining Jemicy’s national reputation for educational excellence and innovation.

Campaign Priorities:
Support Our People
  • Build an endowment for teachers that will secure our ability to hire, train, and retain the very best educators.
  • Strengthen our financial aid endowments to assist more families with the rising cost of tuition.
Take Pride in Our Place
  • Renovate and update buildings on both the Lower and Middle School Campus in Owings Mills and the Upper School Campus in Towson to provide excellent facilities for the science, language, technology, the arts, and athletics.
  • Invigorate our curriculum through use of the most advanced technology and provide the best technological training for our faculty and students.
  • Create a master plan for a new Upper School Campus.
  • Ensure the long-term stability of our capital investments through a maintenance endowment.
Expand Impact of Programs
  • Build the endowment for Jemicy Professional Outreach in order to expand regional training for teachers and school administrators; provide classes, tutoring and workshops for students at every economic level; and continue staff training in educational research.
