Jemicy's Upper School Prep Program

Jemicy School, a nationally-renowned leader in the education of students with dyslexia or other related language-based learning differences, has developed a unique program for students who lack adequate organization and study skills to succeed in a rigorous high school curriculum.

Too often, teachers assume their students possess the innate skills needed to organize, process, study and take notes on the material presented in class. Bright students, who have weaknesses in these areas, fall behind. We make no such assumptions. Students in the Upper School Prep program receive direct, on-going and systematic instruction in these important academic skills, which means that they learn them in the classroom setting and practice them daily. They discover strategies that work best for their learning style, and become confident, competent, independent learners, ready for high school.

Students enroll in the Upper School Prep program for one or two years, depending on the need. Some remain at Jemicy to attend the Upper School; others move on to other educational environments.  Jemicy’s Upper School Prep program will equip students with the tools necessary to absorb, comprehend, organize and retain information presented during a typical upper school class. They’ll be able to advance and thrive, without the frustration often associated with higher learning.
