Jemicy's Middle School - Language

mslanguage2Students progress from two periods of language a day in Lower School to three periods in Middle School. This intensive language study is ideal for our population of students as they are able to practice a wide range of language skills each day. The literature and composition classes mirror each other in many ways. Analyzing literature involves dissecting language to understand it on many levels. Students explore different genres, focusing on the elements of plot, character, and theme. They read poems, short stories, and novels. Composition class teaches the students how to effectively put language together. Through the use of graphic organizers, web-based computer programs, vocabulary development and extensive writing skill development, Jemicy students become proficient readers and writers.

Skills classes are designed to improve:
• reading and writing skills (decoding, spelling),
• vocabulary, including Greek and Latin roots, prefixes, suffixes
• fluency in reading, handwriting, keyboarding
