The Upper School Curriculum
At Jemicy’s Upper School, we give our students the strategies and skills necessary to become independent learners, prepared to meet the challenges of college, future careers, and life. At the Upper School we value synthesis of self-knowledge, academic endeavor, and diligence.

English
Students are enrolled in two classes of English each day, one dedicated to literature and one to composition. Students learn to think and respond critically, creatively, and purposefully to literature. They develop vocabulary and writing skills necessary to meet the demands of college-level courses and the competitive work environment. Eight credits (two each year) are required for graduation.
  • English 9 — Ancient and World Literature

Mathematics
Students participate in classes that offer problem-solving, computational, and practical skills for success in mathematics. Three credits are required for graduation and must include an algebra and a geometry credit.

Science
All sciences are laboratory courses. Three credits are required for graduation and must include biology, physics and/or a physical science.

Social Studies
The social studies curriculum offers a variety of history and social science courses. Three credits are required for graduation and must include World History and United States History.

Skills
All students participate in classes designed to provide intensive focus in specific areas of reading, writing, mathematics, oral communication, academic organization, and technology. Classes are both skill and strategy based. Three credits are required for graduation.

Electives
Students may choose from a wide array of elective courses in the arts (fine arts, digital arts, and photography), publishing, athletics and physical education, foreign languages, and music appreciation. Seven credits are required for graduation.

Additional Course Requirements
Students must complete one (1) credit of physical education and one (1) credit of visual arts. They must also complete an additional two credits of selected course assigned by the school each year.

Community Service
Jemicy requires students to complete forty (40) hours of community service in a school-approved setting of their choice.
