Camp Jemicy
Camp Jemicy,
a co-ed day camp for students ages 6 – 11, first opened in the summer of 1994.
The five week program provides an ideal summer opportunity for
children who struggle with reading, writing, spelling, and/or math to reinforce
and build upon the skills and knowledge they have acquired, and minimizes the
risk of regression. Operated by Jemicy School, a leader in the education of
children with dyslexia or other related language-based learning differences,
Camp Jemicy combines a tutoring program that uses
creative, multisensory, research-based techniques with traditional camp
activities to create productive, fun-filled days.
Five days
each week, children receive language and math tutoring using a structured
sequential approach. Each student’s individualized program is created to
complement his or her learning style and academic needs. Recreational activities
enhance athletic and social skills while building self-esteem and promoting
personal growth. Campers may explore a stream’s ecosystems, grow a garden,
engage in cooperative games, or take swimming lessons at a local swim club.
Other activities include field trips, ropes, pottery, hiking, arts and crafts,
games, dramatics, and much more. Additionally, there is a thematic unit
that weaves through both the academic program and the traditional, fun camp
activities.
Jemicy takes
great care to select a staff comprised of mature and imaginative men and women
who enjoy working with young people. Tutors are trained in various multisensory
reading programs approved by The International Dyslexia Association.
Camp Jemicy takes
place at our Lower and Middle School Campus. The 2010 camp session will run from
Monday, June 28th through Friday July 30th. Full-day, half-day, and extended
care options are available. Enrollment is limited, so parents are encouraged to
apply no later than April 1st for the coming summer. For information and an
